I loved it.
It was quiet, understated, and ruthless. The cinematography was fantastic. It had a distinct foreboding but was really pretty.
Really great acting. If you like reading crime investigations and watched a ton of it, you'll get the right idea about what was in director's head. The nice details about human behavior in such dreadful situations. I like that it was slow and tense, it was quiet like it never happened. Just another little story for a real main hero of a movie. I can't remember the last time I watched a movie that had my attention as much as this.
A wonderful debut.
Part of what made it so gripping was I can tell the director had the ideas preplanned and then wanted to make the idea he had.
It will be interesting if he can follow it up next time when perhaps the ideas aren't there and he's forced to create something.
But this is a fantastic film for the budget. Incredible quality for the budget. There were just a few moments that could have been better acted and directed, but overall it's an A grade movie.

Very liberal definition of comedy. "The Rental" is a "doer upper" with "potential. br> This is a basic but functional horror film with a simple framework that's in need of a little extra TLC. In short, it gets the basic's right with a workable premise but delivers mostly perfunctory, rather than spine chilling scares.
In the latter half of the film, you really get the feeling to a degree, that its going through the motions. That said, It does have its moments. The scene with the car window and the end to the final pursuit, work extremely well.
I suspect this film leaves the door open to a second or third "house call. Indeed, I hope they pursue this further, taking a little extra time, to craft more of the nail biting and jump scare's, horror viewers crave.

I have a question to ask. do you think situations like these are a cup of tea for any SAS or Marine force recon to be in as opposed to normal regular people untrained in killing and ambushing and all that adaptation. Out of respect for Gina Linetti. thats right i dont even know the name of the actress. Gina stick to what you know. nobody will remember you Gina if you do movies. do tv shows like Brooklyn 99 coz thats where u shine Gina supporting role of the real comedians. and everyone will know you (i saw your stand up Gina and that was thx to B 99. but alone u r funny but like i can laugh or cry. and it will have the same effect or i don't want to say ur comedy depresses me.

I saw this movie and after it was over I thought “so they tried to make me care about this characters... for absolutely no reason”. Just watched your Sinister review, one of my all time faves, and if you liked the psychological aspect of that movie, I am curious if you have seen The Poughkeepsie Tapes? If Sinister had you checking your mirrors on your way home, this movie will have you checking your windows, behind doors, etc. Highly overlooked. I think it may be because it's a found footage mockumentary, that said, it's something I recommend people watch. Especially when gearing up for Halloween.

Prof Wolfe maybe a minor point but I think the way you keep phrasing things as 'you change' like when you say 'however you change people's attitudes, you also have to change the structure' is not the best way to say it. That's precisely the kind of phrasing that plays into the fears of conservatives that socialism necessarily requires tyranny. It may be a tyranny of the majority in some cases, but in any case what they fear is another group of people forcing change on them. Setting aside the hypocrisy (of course conservatives have no problem being the ones enforcing policy and thinking on others) I'd think a far less threatening and more inclusive way of advocating for socialism would be to phrase it more as a natural evolution. Not, you change' not even, we change' but simply, things change. Change happens, constantly, much to conservative consternation, but conservatives can and do learn to live with natural, common sense evolution. Evolution in policy to better adapt to a changing social and economic environment is okay. A sudden tyrannical enforcement of socialist thinking and policy, even if such thinking and policy had 50+1 majority support, is scary to conservatives. I'd phrase such a sentence as something like 'however much people's attitudes change, the underlying structure has to change too. It takes some of the impetus out of the statement, I understand. It removes the revolutionary force that socialists love. But that revolutionary force is exactly what conservatives hate and fear in equal measure. I believe that social changes that come about naturally, as a natural response to changing social, economic, and political environments, tend to be the most lasting and successful ones anyway.

The good thing - The cast & the acting were all great, Dan Stevens handsome as hell, he's always great.
The bad thing - Story line are predictable and much suspense which was kinda bored at flick only happens towards the ending... A COPYCAT Halloween movie invasion maybe lol... I always support any Indie or small budget films but this one could have been improved. Do a review on good will hunting PLEASE. Ima watch this look really good. Go ahead watch it I loved it. Hollywood: we've made a Real Estate horror story. Australia: Hold my beer. I just rented this on Fandango! I was super confused but towards the ending of the movie it started to make sense! Very good movie. The trailer is bland hopefully the movie is not. Nothing wrong with being single, but she doesn't really seem happy single, which hopefully ends that way or it ends like typical rom com.
